Matsyendra, Robert Heinlein, And Stranger

Sometimes the interwebs get all gooey. Like when you're searching for books about the ancient, tantric, Jonah-like, fish sage Matsyendra (after whom the pose matsyendrasana is named) at Amazon, and a page from Robert Heinlein's 1961 classic Stranger In A Strange Land pops up.

One of Svabodas Aghora books has some Matsyendra info. Maybe "At the Left Hand of God". In the back he gives a page to each one of the 9 "Nath Siddhis"....along with excellent illustrations by Robert Beer.

One of my spiritual advisors. OK, my former therapist, pointed out that the major difference in the story of Jonah and Matsyendra was that while Jonah resisted and shrunk away from his dharma, Matsyendra embraced his. One might even say he aggressively pursued it.

Hitler Yoga and David Lynch's Invincible Germany

David Lynch has been spending a lot of time campaigning on the behalf of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ideas and projects. That's cool. I've always felt a fondness for the saddhu king of Trancendental Meditation because he's just so damn...

Nintendo Wii Fit: Video Game Yoga

When we posted earlier about Nintendo's Facial Yoga video game, I was guilty of (at least partially) dismissing it as a curious anecdote from the annals of Japanese techno-pop. But I was off. Nintendo is onto a much bigger...

Adidas Play Yoga: Ambient Esoteric Significance

REMARKS (3)

Adidas has begun to accept its dharma as a perpetrator of yoga. It still may have some time to awaken fully to this duty, but many long time yoga practitioners have found kinship with the cosmic, yet down-to-earth, vibrations of...

I didn't even realize that facial yoga was a "thing" (OK. Whatever. It is.) But let's not soil ourselves commenting herewith when we can leapfrog straight to its bizarre and beautiful recombinant offspring: the Japanese video game yoga instructor. Silly?...

Music Mystic: Neil Young Works For The Muse

Today's New York Times features a Neil Young profile highlighting his forthcoming Chrome Dream II tour. And I'm floored by the way he sounds like a mystic. His recent work explores a 'spiritual quest', he explains in the article,...
