Music Mystic: Neil Young Works For The Muse
Today's New York Times features a Neil Young profile highlighting his forthcoming Chrome Dream II tour. And I'm floored by the way he sounds like a mystic. His recent work explores a 'spiritual quest', he explains in the article, "pondering and kind of searching for the experience that enlightens you in some way." Firmly engaged with the world —yet his gaze is simultaneously inverted, with shards of self-enquiry—
"How did I get to where I am? I mean, what happened? Where's the guy who wrote the other songs? There are some songs I can't even sing. I don't even know who wrote them..."

"Is this going to flow like water through me? Can I swim in this sound?"
Neil Young, New York Times, Sunday 10-28-007
"The people were real to me," he said. "They're all in there. I don't know where they came from. I can't make them go away. I didn't invite them."
