Ricky Williams: Into The Yoga Lifestyle, No More Bhang

Ricky Williams, done with Mary Jane. Yoga is his new queen.

“You can say I basically live in a monastery... Something very similar. Every day, we get up early in the morning. We meditate. The life I lead now is very rigorous —not physically rigorous but mentally rigorous. We're on a really tight schedule throughout the day. You don't get much time to relax.”
Ricky Williams, ESPN Radio

Dolphins running back Ricky Williams has applied for reinstatement to the NFL. He hasn't gotten high on drugs "in maybe three years," and has no need to resume using marijuana because yoga has eased his stress. He said he's off marijuana because yoga— "the spiritual practice part of it" —has given him "a way to relax without having to use anything."

“If I can go to the NFL and have success, that would speak a lot for yoga and what I've learned and offer a lot of people who have dealt with the same issues I have a way out.”

Anthony Nicolich

I've been observing the sports media machine demonize this soft spoken, extremely talented and thoughtful athlete for years now. The failure of conventional medications in addressing his anxiety disorders lead him to use weed. Criminal!

Ricky Williams.... Really....

Mon 29 Oct 2007 at 11:59PM

Leghat

Criminal? I never heard of him stealing, murdering, or even dog fighting. Maybe some people should quit believing in what mainstream media brainwashes us with and start thinking for themselves.

Stephen

First of all, Leghat, I believe Anthony was referring to the medical field as the criminal and I agree. As for Ricky, he has always been a very deep intellectual with no shame in his game. An honest, faithful, intelligent child of GOD. Ricky if you read this, I am C.J.'s dad from San Diego, as I told you at our dinner table during the Patrick Henry years, do live your life and be true to your GOD. Tell your mother and sister you all are in our prayers. One love!!

Green Hermeticism

11:44 AM

REMARKS (1)

The Brooklyn Rail ran a great discussion between Souljerky-fave Peter Lamborn Wilson, David Levis Strauss, and Christopher Bamford on "Green Hermeticism" —a smart effort to infuse a (much needed) spiritual dimension into today's popular Green movement. Convincingly, they assert...

Sometimes the interwebs get all gooey. Like when you're searching for books about the ancient, tantric, Jonah-like, fish sage Matsyendra (after whom the pose matsyendrasana is named) at Amazon, and a page from Robert Heinlein's 1961 classic Stranger In A...

First and foremost our gratitude goes out to Astanga Yoga New York & Sri Ganesha Temple, without which the Sri Ganesha Tea & Book Stall would never have incarnated.
