Rudolph Stingel's Buddhist Contemplations
The New York Times recently profiled Rudolf Stinger's coy relationship with Lord Buddha, or at least the iconography. Non-committal yet visceral, his interest explores a critique of appropriated eastern religious iconography in the modern upscale lifestyle. Of course Stinger wrestles with his own respect for the image of Lord Buddha, and the notions that the Buddha represents. And —at least partially— a critique of a lifestyle in which he himself partakes.
